Hi, I'm Sadie.
Welcome to Physics and Fiber Arts Designs! Currently, I am a post-doctoral research assistant by day… and can be found knitting or writing patterns at night.

From the lab bench to the needles
My day-job focuses on looking at biological systems on a single-molecule level, which is a fancy way of saying I get to look at cells being destroyed or not. I can often be found with a coffee in my hand and a book in the other; if I am not playing with yarn.
I found my passion for knitting while in graduate school and it has continued as I have transitioned to new horizons.
I hope you enjoy my patterns and joining me on this chaotic, not too scientific journey!
— Sadie
Where the science shows up
Not in lab coats. In the details that make a pattern work the first time.
Measured, not guessed
Every size is calculated from real gauge swatches, so the numbers add up whether you knit the smallest size or the largest.
Peer reviewed
Every pattern goes through the Test Lab before it's published. Real knitters, real sizes, real feedback.
Visit the Test LabExplained, never gatekept
Charts and written instructions, and a clear explanation of every technique. Curiosity is the only prerequisite.
Dyers, shops and publications
Open to yarn support, pattern features and collaborations with dyers and shops, plus magazine and publication submissions. Send the details and I'll get back to you.
Pattern questions or just nerding out
Stuck on a pattern? Found an error? Want to talk about yarn and science stuff? Get in touch.
Join the lab
New patterns, Lab Notes and test-knit calls. Monthly-ish.
