Privacy policy.
Physics and Fiber Arts ("we", "us") is run by Sadie Nickles. This policy explains what personal information we collect through physicsandfiberarts.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions go to sadie@physicsandfiberarts.com.
What we collect
- Newsletter: your email address and when you signed up, if you join the newsletter.
- Orders: your email address, the name you enter at checkout, what you bought and the price, the card brand and last four digits (for your receipt), and when you downloaded your patterns. Card numbers are entered on Stripe's checkout page and never reach our servers.
- Contact form: your name, email address and message, which are emailed to us and kept in our inbox. They aren't stored on the website.
- Technical data: like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages, block abuse (we limit how often forms can be submitted from one address) and keep short-lived error logs.
- Usage analytics: Google Analytics records which pages are visited, how visitors arrived (for example from a search or a link), when they follow links to Ravelry, and general device, browser and approximate location information. It doesn't store IP addresses. We don't use it on download pages or the order confirmation page. When you buy patterns, we also send Google Analytics the order number, the patterns, their prices and the total (but not your name, email or payment details), linked to the anonymous identifier in its cookie, so we can see which pages lead to sales. We don't send this if you're in a region where the analytics cookies aren't set.
How we use it
- To process your order, email your download link and receipt, and send you free updates when a pattern you bought is corrected.
- To send the newsletter, if you signed up.
- To answer your messages and provide pattern support.
- To keep the site secure and working, and to meet our tax and accounting obligations.
- To understand which patterns and pages are useful, so we can improve the site.
We don't sell your personal information, we don't use advertising cookies, and we've turned off Google Analytics' advertising features and Google signals.
Who we share it with
We use a few service providers, who handle your information only to provide their service to us:
- Stripe processes payments. Stripe's privacy policy.
- Resend delivers our emails. Resend's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare hosts the website and stores its data and pattern files. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how the site is used. How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Cookies
The site needs these cookies to work:
- cart remembers the patterns in your cart for 30 days.
- __Host-xsrf protects the newsletter and contact forms from forged submissions, for 2 hours.
Google Analytics also sets _ga and _ga_D4HS3F7XMX to count returning visitors, for up to 2 years. If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, these analytics cookies aren't set: Google Analytics only receives anonymous, cookie-free measurements from your visit.
Our emails may load fonts from Google Fonts when you open them, depending on your email app. The website itself serves its own fonts.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter addresses: until you ask us to remove you.
- Order records: [retention period, e.g. 7 years] to meet tax and accounting requirements.
- Download links: they stop working after 30 days; the record of them stays with your order.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to help you, in our email inbox.
- Analytics data: [retention period set in Google Analytics, e.g. 14 months], then deleted by Google.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can leave the newsletter at any time, by emailing sadie@physicsandfiberarts.com. We may need to keep order records we're legally required to keep. To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, you can use Google's opt-out browser add-onor block cookies in your browser. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, including to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll let customers and subscribers know by email.
